Skull X-Ray Medical Test

A skull X-ray is a series of pictures of the bones of the skull. A skull x-ray may show fractures, tumors, erosion or decalcification of the bone, or shifts in the soft tissues inside the skull. The x-ray may detect increased intracranial pressure, and congenital (existing at birth) anomalies. A skull x ray may detect bone fractures resulting from injury or disease. The skull x ray should clearly show the skull cap, jaw bones, and facial bones. This test may be performed when there has been trauma and/or injury to the skull or when symptoms indicate a disorder involving structural abnormalities may be present inside the skull (such as tumors or bleeding). The x-ray is also used to evaluate an unusually shaped child's head. A skull x-ray may show fractures, tumors, erosion or decalcification of the bone, or shifts in the soft tissues inside the skull. There are no common side effects from skull or sinus x ray. The patient may feel some discomfort in the positioning of the head and neck, but will have no complications.
